1. Low-light-level night vision goggles

Principle: Use image intensifier tubes to enhance the image of weak targets illuminated by night sky light for observation. Its working process includes photoelectric conversion, microchannel plate enhancement of electronic signals, and electro-optical conversion.

Representative model: US Army AN/PVS-14: Combining the advantages of the third-generation "super" MX-10160 passive image intensifier tube and aviation night vision goggles AN/AVS-6, it has higher resolution and lighter weight. It is more flexible for infantry combat team commanders to use, can be worn on the head, and the observation distance is greatly increased.

The night sight of the British Army's new G22 sniper rifle: using the second-generation half-image intensifier tube (model NSV80Ⅱ), the target can be clearly found in the dark night, and the shooter can determine the distance between the eyes and the sight at will, adjust the scale at will, and shoot again after a few seconds without changing the position of the aiming point.

2. Infrared night vision goggles

Active infrared night vision goggles:

Principle: Observation is carried out by actively irradiating and using the infrared light reflected by the target from the infrared source.

Features: Things can be seen in any situation, but it is easy to expose one's own position, and the effective distance is relatively short.

Application: Generally less used as the main night vision equipment for individual soldiers in the army, but it may be used in some specific scenarios such as close-range search, surveillance and other tasks.

Passive infrared night vision goggles (thermal imagers):

Principle: Observation is achieved with the help of infrared radiation emitted by the target itself, and the target is found based on the temperature difference or thermal radiation difference between the target and the background or the target parts.

Features: It can work in adverse weather such as fog, rain, and snow, has a long range, can identify camouflage and resist interference, and has become the development focus of foreign night vision equipment, and to a certain extent replaces low-light night vision goggles.

Representative models:

RNO military infrared night vision goggles: RNO is the designated night vision goggles purchasing brand of the Russian military. 80% of the Russian army uses RNO night vision goggles, and the fourth-generation night vision goggles it produces are limited to the Russian military.

GPNVG-18: An advanced night vision goggles commonly used by SEAL Team Six, also called ground panoramic night vision goggles. The biggest feature is that it uses 4 lenses, which has a very good night effect. It also has a thermal imaging switching function, and there is almost no blind spot in any area during combat.
