The difference in field of view between GPNVG-18 panoramic night vision device and conventional night vision device

In order to see targets clearly in low-light environments, most people choose monocular night vision devices such as PVS-14 or binocular monocular night vision devices such as PVS-7. If the budget is more generous, you can use the PVS-31 binocular night vision device.

This type of night vision device contains two image intensifier tubes, so that the two eyes can superimpose the field of view to obtain a three-dimensional image field of view. Binocular night vision devices can provide better night vision, but they do not increase the size of the field of view. In order to obtain a better night vision experience and a wider night vision field of view than binocular night vision, this involves the GPNVG-18 panoramic night vision device, which is what we often call a four-eye night vision device.

Generally, conventional night vision devices, whether monocular or binocular, can only provide a 40° field of view. Since the night vision images of binocular night vision will be synthesized by the human eye in actual use. Therefore, the human eye will only see one night vision image, so it has no effect on increasing the night vision field of view.

The panoramic night vision device can basically be regarded as a set of binocular night vision devices, but with an additional set of lens tubes on both sides. Therefore, some people think that they can hold two monoculars next to regular binocular night vision devices to simulate the effect of panoramic night vision. But in fact, this does not simulate its effect very well.

To simulate the effect of panoramic night vision, the user perfectly misses the exit pupil distance of pvs-14 on the left side. pvs-14 is too close to the shooter’s eye because the user can still only obtain a 40° main night vision field of view, plus the additional Two telescopes will create a wide field of view.

But in fact, the field of view of the GPNVG-18 panoramic night vision device is not separate. In order to obtain a coherent field of view, the structure of the GPNVG-18 panoramic night vision device is quite compact, and a small part of the two eyepieces are cut off, and the two eyepieces are placed closely, so that the two night vision fields are merged. This method It's called eyepiece fusion.

At the beginning, the GPNVG-18 panoramic night vision device was developed to obtain a larger field of view. Compared with conventional night vision devices, panoramic night vision devices can provide a larger field of view. Conventional night vision devices only have a 40° field of view, while the GPNVG-18 panoramic night vision device can provide a 98° field of view. Therefore, using conventional night vision devices requires frequent turning of the head to see the surrounding environment. But the GPNVG-18 panoramic night vision device can reduce the range of head swing.
